Everything that your body does is to keep you in the best state of health and ultimately, to keep you alive. Through thousands of years of evolution the human body has become quite a fine-tuned organism that can adapt well to the specific conditions that are placed upon it.
Your results are directly proportional to the amount of work you put it. Many people widely accept this idea as the truth, and it does hold true in most aspects of life.
When you study harder, your grades will improve. If you put in the work to be a better athlete, you will become a better athlete. You will be a better musician if you spend more time learning to play your chosen instrument.
Therefore, it only makes sense that you get massive muscles by spending more time in the gym, correct?
Although it might seem counterintuitive, the answer to this is a definite NO!
In this aspect of bodybuilding, conventional wisdom no longer applies. I can understand what youre thinking...
"Say what? Is it possible that spending less time in the gym will make it possible to get massive muscles?"
For sure!
This can really help you to get massive muscles, and when you look at the muscle-growth process from its core, it becomes obvious why.
Everything that your body does is to keep you in the best state of health and ultimately, to keep you alive. Through thousands of years of evolution the human body has become quite a fine-tuned organism that can adapt well to the specific conditions that are placed upon it.
We become uncomfortable when we are hungry or thirsty, we acquire a suntan when high amounts of UV rays are present, we build calluses to protect our skin, etc.
Do you know how your body responds when you break down your muscle tissue at the gym?
Full points to you if you said, "You get massive muscles"!
By battling against resistance beyond the muscles present capacity we have posed a threat to the musculature. Since the body thinks that something harmful is happening, the natural adaptive response is to make the muscles increase in size (hypertrophy) to protect you.
Since your body will keep on adapting to the perceived threat as long as you add to your workload each week, you can get massive muscles in due time.
Thats not too complicated is it?
It is easy to understand, although you must keep in mind that this only works if you give your muscles sufficient recovery time. If you dont allow enough time for recovery, your muscles wont grow in strength or size.
You will get massive muscles if you workout with the minimum volume that is required to trigger an adaptive response. Once you have pushed your muscles beyond their present capacity and have triggered your thousand-year-old evolutionary alarm system, you have done your job.
Any further stress to the body will simply increase your recovery time. A lot of folks train way too often with more sets than they need, when trying to get massive muscles.
High intensity weight training is much more stressful to the body than most people think. The majority of people structure their workout programs in a manner that actually hinders their gains and prevents them from making the progress that they deserve.
Get massive muscles with these 3 simple guidelines:
1) Do not train more than 3 days every week.
2) Dont let your workouts go on for longer than 60 minutes.
3) Commit to 2-4 sets for smaller muscle groups (shoulders, biceps, triceps, calves, and abs) and 5-7 sets for large muscle groups (chest, back, and thighs).
You want to do all your sets to concentric muscular failure and be sure to add more weights or increase the reps every week.
If youre training consistently with full intensity, then further increasing the frequency or duration of your workout will be detrimental to your gains.
