In Sudan: Two Students were detained and tortured
Khartoum: 7 December 2009
Hiwaar (www.hiwaar.com), a website monitors human rights abuses in Sudan reported today that:
On 6.12.09, Muhanad Omer “19 years old” and Hazim Khalifa “21 years old”, while they were distributing leaflets about the peaceful protest demonstration this Monday, they were approached by the security men. They tried to run, but the security men chased them while firing bullets. Finally, they were both arrested and were taken to the secret services headquarter, where they were physically and verbally abused and beaten up.
Hazim was hit on the back of his head and lost conscious. Both, Hazim and Muhanad were students at the Khartoum Musical institute and they were carrying their musical instruments when the incident occurred.
It is worth to mention that, the opposition parties in Sudan has called for a peaceful demonstration in Khartoum this Monday demanding political reforms but few hours ago the government spokesman said on the Sudan TV, that the demonstration can not go ahead and it is banned. The opposition parties including the Southern of Sudan parties have jointly condemned the government ban of the peaceful demonstration. The tension in Khartoum is growing as the demonetarisation organiser’s insist that the demonstration will go ahead, despite the government warning.
A similar demonstration on the eighties resulted in ending the Colonel Jaffar Nimir’s bloody regime in Sudan.
